St. Louis Ministry of Music and Fine Arts is a community of faith organized to both aid in the proclamation of the Gospel, and to spread the joy of the Catholic faith using a variety of musical and artistic experiences to help the church accomplish its mission.
This should be viewed not as a program area with music and other arts as its ultimate goal, but rather as a ministry through music and other arts. St. Louis Music & Fine Arts seeks to minister to those actively participating, to the congregation as a whole, to the greater community and to the world. The Music Ministry is organized to effectively incorporate all levels and degrees of musical experience and expertise. Our music and fine arts ministry seeks to celebrate the liturgy in a manner that promotes participation by all with joy and reverence, and by utilizing personal talents.
This ministry is directed by the Parish Music Coordinator, Susan Russell, who has served St. Louis Catholic Church since September 2007.
The St. Louis Sanctuary Choir has been providing a variety of sacred music (traditional, classical, light classical, and contemporary) for many years. The choir began in 1963 and has had several directors, organists, and other instrumentalists over the years. The current director, Susan Anderson Karakashian, has led the choir for many years, assisted by cantors and accompanied by the parish music coordinator, Susan Russell (organist, pianist, and harpist).
Participating in the choir is one of the most wonderful and rewarding ways to worship. The Sanctuary Choir is open to anyone who has an interest in singing, no matter what their level of experience is. Even those with no previous experience are encouraged to join. Please consider joining this joyful ministry!
The Sanctuary Choir rehearses on Wednesdays from 5:45 P.M. until 6:45 P.M. in the choir loft and on Sunday mornings at 8:45 A.M.
The Family Choir sings for the 11:30 Sunday Mass, Christmas and Easter Vigils. The choir has been providing beautiful music since January 1998, when it was begun under the direction of Claudia Barua. The choir is currently led by Julie Marroquin.
The musical emphasis of the Family Choir is to welcome all genres of music, from traditional to gospel, classical to contemporary. In an effort to promote congregational singing, a downstairs piano was purchased by the congregation.
Members of the Family choir are encouraged to present special music including instrumental solos, duets, and other sacred music at our mass, which we feel creates a welcoming atmosphere to all who come to worship.
We welcome anyone to join us in making a joyful noise in worship of our Heavenly Father. Practices are on Wednesday nights from 7pm -8pm. No previous experience is necessary. All that is needed is a joyful heart and a desire to praise God in song!
The St. Louis Teen Choir was formed in the Fall of 2011 with the addition of the 5:00 pm Sunday Youth Mass. This Mass was introduced by Fr. John Guzaldo to encourage teen attendance and participation in the Mass prior to attending Youth Group (SLY) on Sunday evenings.
The music, led by Stephanie Hinton, utilizes guitar, bass and piano for a more contemporary sound. Songs include popular hits commonly heard on Christian radio, as well as traditional hymns.
All teens in grades 7th-12th are welcome to join our Teen Choir to inspire the congregation with joyful, uplifting song and praise.
