One way that the youth of our parish can come and serve the Lord is by becoming an Altar Server.

What does an Altar Server do?
An altar server assists in the offering of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass while providing a liturgical worship experience that is most noble and deserving of God. From transporting processional items such as the crucifix, candles, or incense, to helping prepare and clear the altar, or highlighting the most sacred moments with the ringing of bells, an altar server who is truly committed and devoted to his ministry and the glory of God can transform and elevate the liturgy in such ways that hearts and minds of participants are touched profoundly and drawn to God.
Who can become an Altar Server? Anyone who is in the 6th grade and has made First Communion, and is willing to serve weekend Masses.
Duties and Responsibilities induties of an Altar Server are to assist the priest and deacon during the celebration of Mass. Before Mass
Arrive 15 minutes before the start of Mass and sign in.
Dress into cassock and surplice.
Light the candles.
Prepare the charcoals, thrurible, & boat for use of incense.
During Mass
Carry crucifix during the beginning and ending processions.
Hold Roman Missal book for priest.
Assist in setting the altar.
Carry candles during processions.
Wash the hands of the priest.
Clear altar after Holy Coommunion.
Ring bells for consecration.
Assist with the use of incense at the proper times.
After Mass
Replace crucifix in sacristy.
Extinguish all candles and return processional candles to the altar.
Return and put away vestments neatly in the sacristy.
