Florence Scattergood will present a choir clinic for the St. Louis Church choirs on Saturday, October 26th, from 10am until noon. The clinic will be held in the Reicher Catholic High School choir room. The clinic is open to anyone aged 14 and up. No previous experience in choral singing is necessary, and choir members are encouraged to invite anyone that is interested, especially if they would like to continue as a choir member from that point forward.
As well as focusing on choral singing and vocal skills, Mrs. Scattergood will introduce a new choral selection that the choirs will prepare for Christmas. This is a wonderful opportunity to encourage musical growth and greater participation in our choirs. Please don’t miss out! About Mrs. Scattergood-
Florence Scattergood is a 35-year veteran of choral music education whose teaching assignments number 11 schools in 4 private districts and vary from 2A rural to 5A urban campuses and include suburban private as well as at-risk public schools.
While in Irving ISD, she was honored as ESC Region 10 Secondary Teacher of the Year (1990-99), and in 2003-04 she was selected the Secondary teacher of the Year for Waco ISD. Her Waco High School choirs were recognized as community builders by a variety of civic organizations and were honored with the Model of Unity Award by the Community Race Relations Coalition in 2004.
Although her most recent years have been spent in secondary schools, she has taught grades 1 through 12 and has served for many years as a cooperating teacher and field instructor of choral music education on the collegiate level, supervising over 30 student teachers for 5 universities. In 2009, Mrs. Scattergood was the first recipient of the Baylor University Music Education Distinguished Alumni Award.
Mrs. Scattergood was born in Waco, graduated from WISD Schools, and has degrees from Baylor University. She is currently teaching at Reicher Catholic High School in Waco, TX.
